EMDR
Based on the adaptive information processing (AIP) model, which states that maladaptively stored memories of trauma impact present function. EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. It is a form of therapy that allows distressing memories, that persistently impact current functioning , to be reprocessed in a safe & healthy way that allows the brain to get “unstuck.”
EMDR appears to have similar effects of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. It involves eye movements or tapping while recalling a disturbing memory. It helps to decrease the intensity of emotions, beliefs, and sensations associated with traumatic memories.
EMDR is effective in treating trauma, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, depression, self-esteem issues, chronic pain, and more.
