About Mel (she/her/hers)
Hey, I’m Mel. I’m currently a clinical mental health counseling graduate student at Felician University. I graduated with a B.A. in Communications in 2014, but as I navigated (and continue to!) my own healing journey, I decided to make a career change that felt better aligned with my values and life’s purpose. Now, after years of contemplation and despite much self-doubt, I am finally pursuing becoming a therapist. I have a particular interest in learning about eating disorders, dissociative disorders, personality disorders, trauma/cPTSD, coping with chronic illnesses, and chronic suicidal ideation. A few of my favorite treatment modalities include DBT, EMDR and SE (somatic experiencing) I believe healing happens through connection - both with the self and with others. We are complex, holistic beings whose livelihood depends on not only physically being safe but also feeling safe. In the future, my goal is to provide this type of environment, then help my clients create it for themselves.
For self-care I enjoy going to therapy, creating various forms of art, connecting with nature, cuddling with my cats and watching The Golden Girls. I also enjoy getting involved in advocacy and social justice work.
