EMDR: More Than Just a Trauma Therapy

EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. It is a form of therapy that allows distressing memories, that persistently impact current functioning, to be reprocessed in a safe & healthy way that allows the brain to get “unstuck.” You do not have to have trauma to benefit from EMDR therapy. EMDR therapy can benefit individuals who are experiencing anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, depression, self-esteem issues, chronic pain, and MORE!

 About EMDR: 

  • Based on the adaptive information processing (AIP) model, which states that maladaptively stored memories of trauma impact present functioning
  • Appears to have similar effects of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep
  • Involves eye movements or tapping while recalling a disturbing memory 
  • Decreases the intensity of emotions, beliefs, and sensations associated with traumatic memories
  • You do not have to have trauma to benefit from EMDR therapy. EMDR therapy can benefit individuals who are experiencing anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, depression, self-esteem issues, chronic pain, and MORE!
